EliGene® Mycoplasma hom/gen UNI

Intended use

EliGene® Mycoplasma hom/gen UNI is a kit for molecular biological analysis of isolated DNA focused on the species Mycoplasma hominis and Mycoplasma genitalium. It is not intended for diagnostic use.

Principle of the method

The kit is based on the Real-Time PCR principle. The method uses specific primers and fluorescent probes (FAM and HEX) for amplification and recording of target sequences of Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium and the internal control.

Introduction

Mycoplasma is bacterium belonging to the family Mycoplasmataceae which is comprised of group of microorganisms that cause respiratory and genital tract infection. These bacteria are detected in about 70% of sexually active people.
Mycoplasma hominis is associated with inflammatory diseases in a pelvis region, bacterial vaginitis, post-natal fever, sepsis and infections of central nerve system with serious consequences. This bacterium is also presumed to play a role during the development of woman infertility even if a literature and studies are not homogenous.
Mycoplasma genitalium is the main cause of non-Chlamydial and non-gonococcal urethritis (NCNGU) in men and cervicitis in women. M. genitalium bacteria infections have been associated also with inflammatory diseases in a pelvis region but this role has not been confirmed.
